There are times within the calendar year that mark change. The start of the school year is certainly one of the prominent and normally, assumed events of the year. No matter if you have school age children participating in the start day, we are all aware of the shift from the lazy days of summer to the new beginning of the educational year. This moment, although experienced in different ways, is felt across the globe.
This year, the start of school in the USA is bringing out an entirely different awareness. Grief of the way thing were, is palpable!
Grief is the mental and physical response to a major loss of whatever kind.
Whether you have lost a loved one or a friend in the past few months or not, the whole world is in grief for those who have. It is impossible to ignore the heaviness of the numbers of precious lives that are no longer with us mostly due to COVI-19 virus.
According to Mayo clinic Grief is the natural reaction to loss. Greif is both a universal and personal experience. However, grief is not exclusive to the loss of a person, it expands to the loss of what we deem important in our lives. Routine, normalcy and certainty are words that are being redefined now. The start of this school year is the epitome of what we are faced redefining.
The denial of the sadness associated with the loss of yesterdays’ givens could cause problems in the future. Be honest with your emotions and acknowledge what you are feeling. Taking a minute to recognize any and all loss that has taken place this year can be very beneficial the your emotional and physical health.
Sadness is the emotion most commonly resulting from grief. It is a natural reaction to loss or change of any kind. The fear and dysfunction of school starting shines a large light on our isolation and lack of community we all so crave and are not experiencing now. Being around people and sharing moments, especially of grief are important to moving successfully to a better place. Isolation, separation and withdrawal complicate any forward motion.
Community through church, schools, work or community gatherings are the social existence we are all sadly missing. Creating different kinds of community right now is essential for the health and wellbeing of everyone. Acknowledging the grief of the moment and moving forward will take in large part creating new ways of forming a community or a different way of functioning as a community. Bringing others together is the call of the season. It will be well worth everyone’s time to reach out and re- create a community you can rely on and they you can rely on you.
The numerology of the month of August 2020 is ‘3’. The number 3 is the party number! There are not many parties going on right now, however with the 3 energies prominent this month, be on the lookout for any chance to celebrate the little things in life as well as the big ones. Be prepared to be delighted by the new connections that will bring family, friends and community together in a time of recovery from the last stage of grief which is acceptance of what is now and the hope of a bright future.
Love to all,
