Humans like magic. It gives us energy, hope and cheer. Perhaps that is why the character of Mary Poppins with her many magical powers and a bag filled with twice as much as it appears it would hold, has captured our imaginations. Her umbrella is said to be her guide and her escape as she uses it fly over roof tops. She is one of the most recognizable characters in the world and symbolizes the magic that lies behind everyday life.
We know how and why the sun sets every night and so much more, but… what if her bag was a portal to a tract of space? Not infinite, but large enough to hold a lamp? Standing directly in the middle of the year 2021, I hope you create and enjoy many Mary Poppins moments. We still desire magic.
Mary Poppins author, P. L. Travers, is said to have listened to silence and used the vast darkness of nothingness to ignite her inspiration. She wrote, “I’ve become convinced that the great treasure to possess is the unknown.” Taking recommendation from Travers, treasuring the unknown will be helpful as the year 2021 continues to unfold, but… unearthing and treasuring the unknown, especially in this highly charged Master Number 11 energy, has been inspiring to some and led others to “Hit the Wall!”
As we end the first half of 2021, all I can say is, “Congratulations!” I hope you take this last week of June to rest up and let the heavy energy of the past weeks subside. Feeling pulled in different directions as the past has continued to surface, magnifying a general sense of confusion, uncertainty and chaos makes us weary. There has been a tangible tension all month between the past and the future leaving us face to face with our inner resistance and the need to break free. June’s Master Number 11 energy has not been for the faint of heart!
Despite the heaviness in the air, something deep within all of us is urging us to embrace change and stirring up a desire to keep moving forward. As we are being pushed into the unknown and unfamiliar landscape, it might be helpful to stop knocking on the same doors that we know have closed. The COVID pandemic can account for many doors closing, but others have naturally closed because new choices are now available and better.
Do you have ideas about how find new doors or how to break through the wall? What if you used Travers recommendation of spending time alone? Understanding time is relative for all of us. Use small amounts at first, like 15-minute pops of alone time. Even 15 minutes or less could be the thunderclap to new ideas. Suggestions: 1. Spend 15 minutes alone remembering 5 things you enjoyed in your childhood. 2. Spend another 15 minutes alone remembering your favorite moments in High School. 3. Another 15 minutes dreaming the most extravagant vacation you can think of. (If you try this one, add on so extra time and put yourself in the vacation!) 4. Maybe 15 minutes on a time when you overcame adversity 5. Or my last suggestion, is to sit in a comfy chair, with your eyes closed and let “the vast darkness of nothingness ignite your imagination.”
Be receptive to what is emerging, do not view it as criticism, and stay away from unnecessary drama. Try not to control things. It will make moving through the wall much easier! We can all benefit right now from freeing things that we take too seriously, personally, and literally.
“There is a huge amount of freedom that comes to you when you take nothing personally.”
