Waiting for the other shoe to drop is a phrase from the early 20th century. The phrase comes from a time when apartments in New York were built with bedrooms one on top of each other and no sound reducing insulation. Shoes were made of leather and the soles were thick making the shoes heavy. It was common to hear your upstairs neighbor take off a shoe, drop it, and then repeat the action. The saying became shorthand for something you knew would happen. I am sure the slant toward the negative started innocently, after all a loud thump over your head would be annoying. However, over time the saying became more frequently used when waiting for a negative event to occur, and rarely used to expect something positive. There is no question the underlying feeling on planet earth for more than a year has been that of waiting for another negative event to possibly happen.
We are in a time of great inner change and deep inner transformation. As always with change, feelings of anticipation, anxiety, and concern for what is coming next is normal. Remembering lessons from the past is normal too. We fall back to what we have etched in our brains for comfort. However, remembering to carry the lessons into today’s environment is imperative to gaining the benefit from the lesson. Many of the phrases, that have stayed through the ages were created from a time when survival was the problem, and they are repeated through tough times to help the next generations understand what they experienced, moved through and how not to repeat the fear and pain they vividly remember. This is mostly done with the lenses of the past as if nothing has changed in the world. But a lot has changed!
Are you in survival mode? Are you consciously or subconsciously waiting for something to happen? As our intuition increases with the help of the upcoming full moon, we can become more susceptible to picking up on other’s emotions. Some are in survival mode, but many are taking on the old energy of fear of loss of survival being offered in their surroundings. Today, trust in yourself is essential while processing what is happening now and how the present is being self-described.
The more self-aware you are especially in the words you are repeating, the greater your capability for navigating through confusing terrain in our current world. Human nature has survived, at least to some degree, on evolutionary self-interest. Therefore, it is up to each of us to check in and decide whether we are living from past outdated or possible misinterpretations of what we have heard throughout our lifetime or taking the knowledge (words) of the past, processing them clearly and transforming their meanings for today.
Knowledge can be Power and the wisdom you hold is vital to illuminating your next moves. Knowledge is also a Power Tool when you add personal insight and redefine the message of the past into the situations of the present. The anticipation of the shoe dropping could be positive just as many times as a negative. How uplifting that message would that be! My new affirmation…
“Every day wonderful things happen for me and everyone!”
New times call for new perspectives. Your imagination and intuition are your guides to your past, present and future individual Knowledge. It all starts with you, remembering that your Knowledge translates to Personal Power.
Love to all,
